A horticulturalist is someone that has studied the practice and science of cultivating plants and gardens.
A horticulturalist has been to Technical College or University to study plants and anything to do with growing them. They then apply this knowledge to different areas within horticulture.
Some horticulturalists will work at garden centres and give gardeners expert advice to help them have a beautiful garden and choose their plants wisely. Others will become landscape horticulturalists and will develop the skills of designing gardens and then looking after them.
Some will work at production nurseries where they propagate plants or maintain them as they grow ready to be delivered to garden centres ready to be sold to you.
There are horticulturalists who specialise in agriculture such as the breeding and development of crops or fruit for farmers to grow. They might also work in orchards or vineyards to keep the fruit healthy so that they can be harvested.
Being a horticulturalist is a wonderful job for people that enjoy working with plants and spending time outdoors. It is a job that keeps people fit and active and offers a lot of variety. A horticulturalist can work anywhere in the world!
