Newspaper pots are great fun to make and don’t cost anything. Use them to sprout seeds or grow seedlings in and simply plant the whole thing into the ground! The newspaper will break down and the seedlings will grow perfectly.
YOU WILL NEED:
Newspaper
Scissors
Glass or Jar (6cm base and straight sides)
Thick, dry sponge
Premium potting mix
Gardening gloves
Seedling of your choice
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Cut long strips of newspaper that are about 10cm wide.
- Roll the newspaper around the jar so that half of the width of the newspaper overhangs the bottom.
- Fold the newspaper that hangs over the edge underneath the bottom of the jar.
- Press the bottom of the jar firmly on to the sponge so that the base of the newspaper pot is squashed together.
- Slowly twist the jar and remove the completed pot.
- Now fill your pot with potting mix and plant a seed or seedling in to the soil. Put the newspaper pot on an old tray and water lightly.
- When the seedling has grown, plant it directly into the ground with the newspaper pot as well.
